Don’t you hate when you attend an event and someone is wearing the same outfit as you? For me that moment came at my senior prom! Talk about a moment that I will never forget. Finding original clothing is hard when most people shop at the same stores unless you often go online and create custom clothing using websites such as Imprint or others for truly unique pieces of clothing. Boutique Owner Emily Scott hopes to put an end to common clothing by offering a limited hand-selected, curated collection of clothing and accessories at Compendium Boutique.
The newly opened boutique is located across the street from Swarthmore College at 23 S Chester Rd in Swarthmore. Their clothes are perfect for college aged young professional women who want the versatility of an outfit for the office that can transform into a flirty Friday date night dress.
Compendium Boutique offers fashionable items for as low as $35 and, local handmade dresses, blouses, and pants for around $100. The boutique only gets a limited supply of designs and receives new shipments on a weekly basis. You’ll find unique, beautiful pieces to add to your wardrobe that you won’t find at the local mall.
Pulling from Los Angeles instead of New York, Scott , wants to provide her customers clothing from a different point of view. Housing LA-based designers like LA and Everly allows her to carry designs no other boutique on the east coast may offer. And not worry, Emily also houses many designs from local designers and most of the jewelry and accessories are handmade-sometimes even by Scott, herself.
With a strong passion for clothing design, Scott wanted her customers to share their opinion on some of her designs for the spring seasons. She invented an interactive design board that allows customers to take part in her design process. Customers can vote the type of fabric, color, and style they love knowing they’ll eventually get to buy them at Compendium.
I was greatly impressed by the variety of clothing found at the boutique. The selection wasn’t very large, but she carried staple trend pieces. I LOVED the amount of color much of the clothing had. I know sometimes we get stuck in wearing darker colors during the winter, but the boutique offered clothing in colors of yellows, bright blues, and oranges. There’s nothing better than adding a pop of color to your outfit!
I think that Compendium is a great place to shop and pick up a few pieces to add to your wardrobe, especially since they offer one-of-kind pieces. Whether you’re looking for some signature jewelry, a dress for a special occasion, or staple trend pieces to spice up your look, Compendium is worth the trip.
