There’s no avoiding it, Autumn is fast approaching and what better way to jump start the new season than by indulging in the most desirable of trends. From the it color you’ll be stocking up on, to new takes on old favorites, Fall 2011 will make you look at your wardrobe in a whole new way. And if you’re seeking sartorial inspiration, look no further than my trendy picks for the Fall.
Pretty In Peplum
Peplum dresses, shirts, sweaters, jackets and blazers; you name it, the designers have it. Peplum is the darling of trends this Fall and the fashion gurus are under it’s spell. Look for beautiful peplum blouses and dresses to incorporate into your Fall wardrobe. You can wear a single peplum item or flaunt your ladylike figure by layering clothes and completing your outfit with a peplum jacket. This will come in handy during the cooler Fall months.
Why wear peplum? Short of wearing a corset, peplum is the best way to accentuate your waist and give you an uber feminine silhouette. I’m personally smitten with this Alice+Olivia Victoria Peplum Dress, $264. A more flattering cut you won’t find; the jersey fabric makes it accessible and the design makes it evening appropriate. It also comes in an edgy white leather. Love!
One caveat for those of you dying to try this trend, pear and hourglass shaped women should proceed with caution. Although this style is perfect for creating and accentuating curves, it may exaggerate the hips a bit too much. But for all you apple and rectangle shaped women, this is a match made in heaven.
Saucy Mustard Hues
Now I have to admit, this hue is not for everyone. But if you happen to look good in yellow, this slightly darker more sophisticated version will make you absolutely glow this Fall. If you are blessed with the right complexion and hair color, you will have your pickings of clothes starting from blazers, to dresses down to accessories.
I prefer this luxurious hue in a velvet fabric because it gives it a regal look. But don’t fret if this is not your color. You can always find mustard accessories like this Bottega Veneta Cervo Hobo, $1,860.
Sign On The DOTTED Line
If Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg put the same print out on the runway, you know you can’t be caught without it this Fall. Polka dots are hot, hot, hot! And not the safe small kind, either. The more bold over sized dots the better. They’re not just whimsical but a true fashion must-have for the Fall.
But if the head-to-toe patterned look isn’t your thing, try a polka dot skirt like this Moschino C&C, $455 which you can wear with a solid color blouse or a tee. A polka dot scarf is always an option to put a playful and trendy spin on your everyday outfit.
Give Me Your Leather Take From Me…My Lace
The next two trends are reinvented oldies but goodies. Leather is making a huge comeback in the Fall in a shape of skirts. Pleated, pencil, 3/4-everything goes. What makes 2011 different is that the skirts are paired with casual, chic tops like button-ups and sweatshirt-like sweaters.
I found this absolutely adorable RED Valentino Short Leather Skirt with Bow, $890. Girly by nature, you can wear this skirt with a plain white tee or an off-the-shoulder sweater to give it a more laid back look.
Just when you thought that I couldn’t say another thing about lace, it returns for the Fall. I guess it isn’t shocking that lace is back. It’s classic, feminine and sexy. So you ask, how can lace be reinvented?
This season lace is more polished and versatile. This is the kind of lace that you can wear to work and to an evening out on the town. Being a self-proclaimed lover of lace, I spotted these non-traditional Georgie Lace Bell Bottom Pants, $225. I would pair them with a light blazer and stilettos. They aren’t entirely jeans and they aren’t trousers, so you can get away with wearing them to work.

It’s easy to forget about the clothes that are more than a season old. I hope my tips inspire you to start building a fabulous Fall wardrobe. Happy Shopping Ladies!
