You may or may not have heard of the major shakeup JC Penney’s has been going through for some time now and if you thought that began with a new CEO who came over from Apple and ended with their new logo and commercials with Ellen you were wrong. JC Penney’s stores are in the process of being remodeled as well to in an effort to update the brands image.
I recently paid a visit to the recently reopened JC Penney at Franklin Mills mall and I have to say, I was impressed with the stores new direction. JC Penneys can be a great place to find basics and staples at a great price so I am rooting for it to do well.
From the moment you walk in the store has a different feel and look to it. Manican’s decorate entrances and apparel has been further divided into sections that feature the stores biggest fashion labels such as Levi’s, Decree, Nine& Co, Liz Claiborne, and Mango.
Employees can be seen folding clothes on designated tables in a clear effort to keep the store tidy. In general, you get the sense that if Apple got in the business of mass clothing retail their store would begin to look something like this.
There’s no doubt the presentation of JC Penney’s has been improved but if you weren’t a fan of the store before its not clear to me that you will become one now. If JC Penney’s really wants to improve their sales, they should start with fresh clothing lines that mix trends with classics and quality.
And I do think that’s what they will continue to work on next.
