Last weekend I was in for a real treat as I packed up my car and headed to the fashion capital of the world, New York City. Time flew by and as my highly anticipated trip was coming to an end, I decided to spend my last few hours browsing the streets and walking into as many stores as I could possibly find.
It turned out to be a blissful afternoon with the weather being as spectacular as ever. New York really is the perfect destination for anyone looking for rare finds and sartorial inspiration. And this day was no different. There was no shortage of fashion genius both on the streets of Manhattan and in the store displays. Every boutique had something unique and fabulous to offer and their Sales made it virtually impossible to walk out empty handed.
With New York having the best of this season’s offerings there was an abundance of alluring merchandise both for the Summer and the Fall. But as I drove off, it dawned on me that all of the “stuff” was overwhelming and that in reality only 3 items left an impression on me.
Fantasy Shoe Shopping:
Men have Fantasy Football, so women should invent Fantasy Shoe Shopping. Each season there will be a vote for the shoes that will be a hit and the ones that will end up on the sales rack. We will have a pool and the end winner will buy, what else but shoes. With shoes on my mind, I made my way to the shoe department of Bergdorf Goodman. There were shoes everywhere and with their current renovations for the purpose of being able to fit more products the room was pure chaos.
Their shoe selection varied from fantasy footwear to over the top glamorous stilettos to the ultimate must-have pumps. The shoes that I spotted with the utmost “must-have” status were the versatile Alexandre Birman Python Pumps, $550. What a perfect day shoe or a night shoe and ideal with any color outfit. If you were to buy one shoe for the Fall this should be it.
Vintage Look Alike:
With so many designers going vintage, how can you find a bag that is truly unique? I ask this with a particular purse in mind. The Gucci 1973 small shoulder bag, $795 first came out in a limited number of colors last Spring, but due to it’s popularity this very special bag is making a comeback the Fall. Same style but with a price increase later, you can now find this little cross-body bag in a gorgeous teal, which by the way is the “IT” color for the Fall.
Better With Tassels:
I wrote about tassels in the past, so it’s no secret that I am a huge fan. When I saw this Emerson Thorpe Solid Tassels Dress, $265 at a tiny boutique in the West Village it put me over the edge. First of all, the color is amazing. The length is super sexy without revealing too much and then there are these fun over-sized tassels on the sleeves. I did some research and found this dress online. It comes in various colors but this one my absolute fave!
Traveling and shopping often go hand-in-hand, but even when you’re outside of your comfort zone, you should still be savvy. Here are my shopping tips that the stores may not want you to know. If you live in a state that does’t have tax on clothes and you’re shopping in a state that does, you can save money by shipping the item/items to your home. The upside is that you save money but the downside is that you don’t get to take your purchase with you. Just remember that if the store that you’re buying from has a location in your state, you are not eligible for the tax savings.
Another tip is to always check out the merchandise online before you make a purchase in the store. Google is a great place to look as well as ShopStyle.com. Sometimes you will find the item cheaper elsewhere and at others your search will reaffirm that you are getting a great deal. Either way it is helpful to do a search before making a big purchase. Of course, when you fall in love with something there id no stopping you from pulling the trigger. This I know first hand. I hope my inspirations in turn inspire you.
Happy Shopping Ladies,
