After giving it much thought and receiving an unexpected amount of feedback from the men regarding last week’s post, I decided to dedicate this blog to listing the things that THEY are eying this season, but won’t readily share with us.
I was able to gather some insight into their Holiday Wish Lists. For all of the men out there, please add anything that I may have left out. I am sure that in the spirit of trying to keep things short and sweet, I missed a few. Trust me, the women will thank you! After all, what is a Fashionista without an equally fashionable and stylish counterpart?
But before I reveal my picks, I would like to say that I am not suggesting that you change your man. Instead, introduce him to some things that he hasn’t tried before or indulge him in the things he already loves. Since this is the time of the year for sharing, I thought why not bring the epicurean out in all of us and share the gift of fashion with the man in your life. So, what do you get that special person when all he wants for the Holidays is you? Here are 5 things that are guaranteed to please:
1) Skinny tie
2010 is almost over and it is time to lose the old boring tie giving ideas. Men can buy their own ties and they do, for work! Where’s the excitement in that? This year get him something young, hip and playful. Find a skinny tie he can wear with a suit or transition it into a more casual look. This modern and updated tie; which was popular during the Beatles era, is now appealing on men of any age. I personally love solid ties, like the ones designed by Hugo Boss.
2) Mont Blanc Pen
Women may not see a pen as a personal gift, but to a man this is as thoughtful as it gets. Give this gift without hesitation. With the right pen he will think of you with every stroke. I suggest getting a Mont Blanc pen because it is the epitome of craftsmanship and there is a very good chance that he won’t lose THIS one.
Whether your man travels a great deal or takes just one vacation a year, he will need a garment bag. So, it is your job to find one that he will be proud to lug around and will also be durable and convenient. This is not a gift to splurge on, since luggage tends to get beaten up. Selecting one of the more moderately priced brands like Bric’s and Tumi should do the trick.
This is a small luxury that most men have not had the chance to experience. I know first hand the difference between a good and an average set of earphones. All it takes is to borrow a friend’s superior set and you’re hooked. He can use his new prized possession at the gym or to entertain himself on the plane. And what better time than the holidays to treat the man in your life to a crisp sound and the latest technology. Guys love that stuff. But be weary, earphones range in price quite a bit, so do your research. I found that getting a pair in the $300 range gets you a stellar ergonomically correct set and delivers amazing sound quality. Check out a pair of Klipsch earphones and be sure to choose ones that provide the right quality for your money.
5) A weekend getaway
I absolutely cannot take the credit for thinking this one up. But, the idea got me thinking. If you could disappear for an ultimate getaway, where would you go? To me, an ideal retreat would be at a Bed & Breakfast in Vermont, but for a man it might be a weekend of fishing with the guys or golfing in Pebble Beach. Whatever the trip, put some thought behind it. No one knows the man in your life better than you.
These are my 5 picks. I truly hope you found them helpful. Happy shopping ladies and gentlemen. Your efforts will not go unnoticed.
