Whether you’re heading out to a house party or a black tie affair this New Year’s Eve, last minute wardrobe decisions are inevitable. However, shopping may or may not be in your stars. So, for those of you looking to elevate your outfit to a jaw-dropping status, I say accessorize, accessorize, accessorize! You can always get creative with the things you already own or buy a little something to add pizazz. The possibilities are endless, so I made it my job to narrow the options down to just 5, and can I just say that it was not easy.
I pulled some of my favorite items for each trend, complete with the essentials to make you stand out in the crowd. No doubt you already have a dress hanging in your closet, your resolutions jotted down, and your midnight kiss secured, but if you are putting the finishing touches on your desired look, check out these items to help you express your personal style and start 2011 off with a bang:
Everything is Better With a Little Sparkle
Sparkles are all the rage this season and NYE is no exception. Choose one statement piece and accessorize around it. I just love this one-sleeved Vivienne Westwood Glitter Jersey dress. It has just the right amount of sparkle and sophistication. Pair it with your favorite nude heels and some beautiful rose gold jewelry. With this look you are golden for your big night out.
Being an earth sign, I am always drawn to the color green. Green walls, green accessories and, of course, luscious green fabrics. Emerald, the rich and vibrant green is the “it” color. Get ahead of the game and adorn yourself in this fantastic hue along with some gold jewelery, metallic pumps and a true must-have; a cropped fur jacket for your ultimate night out on the town.
Red is truly the statement color of the holiday season. It is also the color of passion, seduction and sex appeal. If you have steered on the safe side of fashion all year round this is your time to shine. Find a little red dress, slip it on and watch heads turn. The dress I have chosen is a true work of art by Notte by Marchesa. I cannot express how fond I am of this designer. This particular dress has the perfect balance of femininity and sensuality. And as the French say “le rouge attire le taureau,” so ladies you better be ready for the bull.
Everything That Glitters is NOT Gold…
It is also pewter, silver and any other imaginable color. It is very easy to overdo it with this trend, so choose wisely. One or two unique metallic pieces will take you a long way. It is easy to find shoes with a metallic finish, but I say be adventurous and find a dress like the gold knee length Herve Leger show stopper that I selected. With this gilded look you are sure to bring the new year in in style.
Rihanna has perfected the overstated spike look, but you don’t have to be a musician to rock this trend. Wearing spikes this New Year’s Eve will make a sartorial splash at any event you attend. Limit your spikes to a few accessories and you will look chic without going overboard. If I had to choose just one item to pull off this look it would be the gorgeous Christian Louboutin Lady Peep Spikes. By taking risks and wearing spikes you will be the Rock Star of the party.
Happy New Year, Fashionistas. Enjoy this post early and please share your outfits with us on the PhillyFashionistas.com Facebook Page. Happy Shopping and see you all in the new year!
