The way I see it, sunglasses are NOT a seasonal accessory. The right pair of shades can give your outfit pizazz and top off a look any time of the year. We learn early on that sunglasses protect the eyes much like sunscreen protects the skin. Why then stop wearing or more importantly stop shopping for sunglasses during the winter months? Sunrays don’t go into hibernation and neither should your sunglasses.
This season you will not be disappointed with the variety of glasses that are in style. It all comes down to self-expression. I have to warn you, some of the new styles may take a little getting used to. I had a hard time digesting some of the futuristic styles myself. The choices out there are definite eye candy and for those of you looking to turn heads, the sunglass department should be the first place to look for inspiration.
Go ahead, come out of your shell and try something new this season. You should know that I will be doing the same. But if you are one of the few who choose to shy away from sunglasses this winter, here are three non-fashion reasons not to. #1 Sunglasses cover your face when your makeup isn’t – allowing you to still look fabulous. #2 You can people watch guilt-free in your sunglasses. So, stare to your little heart’s content. #3 Must I bring up preventing cataracts and wrinkles?
Why stay away from all of the new and exciting styles? Stop searching for reasons not to buy new sunglasses and cave.
Subtle Cat Eye
The cat eye trend is hot, hot, hot. These are not the glasses you will be sharing with your boyfriend or husband. They are ultra feminine with a retro angle. Models vary across the board. Some are costumey and others are a subtle hybrid of vintage shades. Both are fantastic. Almost all designers are offering some form of cat eye and they are universally flattering, so do not settle until you find “the one.”
Aviator with a Twist
If your aviators feel stale – it’s time to shake things up. Aviators aren’t going anywhere, so to stand out choose slightly altered options to spruce up your wardrobe. Ray-Ban came out with a colored wire line with leather strips, (top left), DKNY squared their aviators off (bottom left) and Prada has rolled out a rimless pair that are absolutely to die for (bottom right).
Channeling John Lennon has never been more fashion forward. Try on these round retro inspired frames. Ray-Ban developed an entire line dedicated to him and so have other designers. These shades come in many different sizes and colors. You will be seeing a lot of round sunglasses in upcoming months, so be the first to jump on this trend.
As with everything you buy, sunglass possibilities can seem endless. The key is to stick to the parameters of what is in style without going too funky. For a unique look, follow this guide but shop vintage. This should not be too hard since most of the glasses this season are retro inspired. Protect your eyes in style and as always, happy shopping ladies.
